Opening at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Auditorium Hall, ‘Beneath the Surface’ brings together four artists whose practices are rooted in an engagement with what lies beyond immediate visibility. The exhibition is less concerned with surface resolution and more with the internal negotiations, of memory, material, and lived experience, that precede and shape the final work. It asks the viewer to slow down, to look past the evident, and to encounter the quieter, often unresolved tensions embedded within each piece.

Charanjeet Singh’s works move between past and present, drawing from architectural memory and historical visual languages to construct spaces that feel both intimate and distant. His paintings hold a sense of time layered upon itself, where fragments of history are neither preserved nor erased, but reconfigured.

Manish Sharma approaches the landscape as a psychological terrain. Working within a restrained palette, he builds images that oscillate between recognition and ambiguity. These are not depictions of place, but states of perception, where structure dissolves into texture and memory resists clarity.

Abhishek Mandala’s sculptural language centres on the human figure as a site of pressure and transition. His forms suggest bodies shaped by forces larger than themselves, economic, social, and spatial, where endurance and fragility exist in constant negotiation.

Kaushik Gajjar reflects on the idea of dwelling, not as static architecture but as a living, relational condition. His compositions evoke built environments that seem to lean, connect, and respond to one another, suggesting a collective life embedded within structure.

Dahod, Gujarat — Dr. Gopal Krishna H. Upadhyay, a renowned Shrimad Bhagwat Acharya, has devoted his life to the promotion of spiritual knowledge, social service, and humanitarian efforts. Born on May 4, 1976, in Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh), he has emerged as a respected scholar and teacher of the Shrimad Bhagwat Purana.

Holding a Master’s degree in Sanskrit, Dr. Upadhyay has dedicated years to spreading the teachings of Sanatan Dharma. His deep understanding and commitment to spiritual education have earned him recognition across various regions.

In 2002, his contributions were honored with the prestigious “Shrimad Bhagwat Ratna” award, presented by former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Recognizing his exceptional talent and contributions, he was also honored with the Bharat Gaurav Samman.

Apart from his spiritual teachings, Dr. Upadhyay is widely admired for his social and humanitarian work. He actively participates in Gau Seva and manages a Gaushala in Dahod that shelters more than 500 cows, including sick and abandoned cattle.

Vaishali, Bihar – In a small district of Bihar, a young and determined boy, Dipanshu Maurya, is nurturing a powerful dream—to serve the nation as a Para SF Commando in the Indian Army. Coming from a humble yet supportive family, Dipanshu’s story reflects dedication, patriotism, and inspiration.

Dipanshu is the son of Rajkumar Verma, a hardworking farmer, and Jaymala Rani, a dedicated teacher. Growing up in an environment where values of discipline and education were deeply rooted, he developed a strong sense of responsibility towards his country.

His biggest inspiration comes from brave soldiers like Captain Vikram Batra and Lucky Bisht, whose courage and sacrifice have left a deep impact on his life. Moreover, his grandfather, Deoki Nandan Prasad Sinha, a retired Indian Army personnel, played a significant role in motivating him to follow the same path of service.

Apart from his dream of joining the army, Dipanshu is also passionate about writing books and singing, which reflects his creative side. With constant support from his family and teachers, he is determined to achieve his goal.

Dipanshu proudly says that he loves his country deeply and wants to dedicate his life to its service. His journey is a true example of how dreams, when supported by determination and inspiration, can lead to greatness.

The program began with a Ganesh Vandana performed by Smt. Medha Khare and her group.

This was followed by a Lavani performance by Shreeya Tamhankar and her group. The Lavani, composed by Dr. Manjusha Kulkarni, was beautifully rendered by National Award-winning singer Savani Ravindra.

Hindu Colony Marathi Sanskruti Manch presented an impressive Lathi-Kathi performance. A Vedic Fashion Show was also showcased by Smt. Shubhangi Ghatnekar (Purvaj Brand), which attracted special appreciation from the audience.

The Yellow Canvas Platform presents Yellow Canvas: A Children’s Art Exhibition 2026, an initiative led by Sohan Kumar Choudhary, an alumnus of Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art. Conceived as a space to recognise and nurture emerging talent, the exhibition brings together a diverse body of work by young artists trained under his guidance, with 81 students from Sr. KG to Grade 12 participating in this edition.

At its core, the exhibition celebrates creativity as an essential and deeply human faculty. It reflects a pedagogical commitment that moves beyond technical instruction, encouraging students to develop independent visual languages while grounding them in strong foundational and advanced artistic principles. Over the years, many participants from this ecosystem have progressed into fields such as applied art, product design, graphic design, fashion, and interior design, with several establishing themselves as practicing professionals, educators, and international exhibitors.

This edition expands its scope by including works from students based across the United States, Germany,  UAE, Armenia, Canada, Belgium, Thailand, Netherlands, and Singapore. The exhibition thus situates itself within a broader global dialogue, while remaining rooted in Indian artistic traditions, including engagements with folk forms and regional visual cultures.

Yellow Canvas 2026 is not merely a display of youthful expression but an evolving platform that fosters discipline, imagination, and cultural exchange. By creating an environment that is both structured and exploratory, the initiative underscores the importance of sustained engagement with art from an early stage.

The exhibition stands as a testament to the role of mentorship in shaping future creative practices, offering young artists both visibility and encouragement in their formative years.
